I don't think Weston Beach is suitable plus the fact we WOULD attract the wrong type of people etc.

Seems like private events such as Kingston Lacy etc are the way forward now, sadly.

what about haynes motor museum

http://www.haynesmotormuseum.com/home/index.html

was just thinking as they hire it out to clubs (i think) so know one else to upset, can be a ticket event (for charity) so no unwanted outsiders, just an idea, prob a bad one biggrin

Brean beach? Can pay to drive on the beach and park up. Was down there last year and a big VW club meet turned up.

Ashton Court as already mentioned or chew valley is good been to car meets there before.

And Dr Dave...Ricers?? are Jap cars not accepted or something??

That's a good shout as you also have the handling track available to hire out.

Weston Beach isn't really suitable for a lot of cars I don't think. Which is a shame as there's lots of room.

Does Ashton Court have enough in the way of parking to accomodate 100+ cars?

The only place I can think of at the moment that could be an option is CheW Valley lake. ( arse beaten by Ant but it is still a good idea)

Specifically this set of car parks with the green arrow.

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=51.349976,-2.61372...

If it could be prearranged with Bristol Water (or whoever it is that runs it?) perhaps we could book that carpark for 3 hours from 9-12 and then go off driving and leave it for the general public. Room for quite a few cars, really nice location and lots of good roads and pubs about. Parking is usually about £2 I think.

Otherwise the runway idea some chap mentioned in another thread sounds excellent. I think most would be happy to pay a small amount for the privilege especially if it discourages gate-crashers.

No, to me that typically refers to a "certain" type of car owner. I agree though, because of that issue alone, Weston beach would be completly unsuitable.

The Chew valley suggestion sounds good, as it may allow similar organisation to Kingston Lacy, in fact I do remember reading here that they have accomodated various clubs in the past.

edit: yep or Haynes museum

Haynes sounds like a good idea.

Blaise Hamlet/Castle - don't know the area, is it likely to attract the wrong sort of people?

Went Haynes a year or so ago for a meet. Good venue, the "overflow carpark" we used led to the handling track and didn't interrupt the public car park and even gave the public more to look at.

With 200 cars though, we'd take up half the track too!
I was hoping for somewhere further West if I'm honest, there's ample free parking on the edge of Dartmoor at Crapstone if that's any good for anyone?

Northloop hired out Haynes as a trackday venue. Huge field out the back which serves as a pitlane, but could serve as a massive show arena in this case. The track cost about £800 I think to hire for the day so to recoup that you would need 40 members paying £20 each to share the track - Can only go 1 at a time though so you won't get much for your £20 - it is however a real tight technical track which is real good fun.

They usually incorporate access to the museum in too, but its around £8 I think for an adult and the collection of motors in there is pretty astounding, especially the "Red room" biggrin

Good call, I can confirm that they will accommodate club meets - we did the Dolomite Club annual meet there last summer, excellent day out and a great museum to have a wander round too. Could have sworn there were 2 Duesenbergs there though. Added bonus - fry-ups on hand biggrin

My local rubgy club have a reasonably large car park, with the usual facilities and could put on some bacon butties etc. I'm thinking maybe a invite only first come first serve type thing via email printable PH invite. I could orginise the venue if someone with the know how could do the invites etc. The location would be a sleepy little town called North Tawton in the hart of Devon, the club car park could hold around 60 plus cars, with room in an overflow car park, what do we think???
